MY JOURNEY

Along this path of daily information grind, something special began to form. A nationwide (global!) web of intelligence and individual spirit and rational thought and downright lionheart pushback sprung up in response to an increasingly Orwellian environment. “Brain Trust”. From being out on the frontlines day after day and building a mutual respect, to spit-balling current events and intellectual topics, to sharing our life wins and challenges and building true camaraderie, a sense of family as formed around this all. “Digital Family”.

This has all truly been a journey for me. When I stared at that “Create an account” screen on Twitter back in 2016, it took me several long minutes to move forward. I knew if I did that I would go hard. I had gone my whole life without being part of social-media and I didn’t want to enter that world for the reasons most were drawn into it. I had stayed away for reasons that remained and still made sense. But I was driven by something at that moment. A fire that has continued to light and now roar inside me. “I had to be able to tell me kids I did something”. It’s true. And so I did! Discover all of MY JOURNEY projects below:

  • Project : My Journey

The pieces carrying this title will largely be about the growth of this energy, this project, this Conversation itself. As I’ve hinted many times, my life goal now is to take my family around the county on an RV trip and see the fabrics that truly make us, us. Not the fancy dolled-up versions splattered all over our screens and plastic society, but the simple and dirtied-up versions that really tell our nation’s story. I find such rich inspiration in the smallest of things. Our people and our land are calling me! This journey isn’t about me; it’s about us. There is a fire lighting across America right now, and those of us who have driven the incredible discourse online have been the kindling. I literally have a map at home with red push-pins where several of you live. I’m marking this sojourn; I would love to head out next year. As this dream of mine becomes material, as these energies turn more and more from discussion amongst avatars to rich relationships amongst friends, I will be sharing the status and progress and plans and magic under this all within the “My Journey” works. I recognize this spirit isn’t for everyone, so while this is a very special pocket of the work to me, it will largely live aside of the more substantive analytical stuff.

  • Project : Reflections

I envision these as a series of more formal essays. Perhaps formal is the wrong word; however, these will be true written pieces when I sit down and try and figure out what story a locale or a chapter wanted to tell me. I started this project without even realizing it when I was up in New Haven and New York over the summer. But as I got wrapped into such intense energies around St. Augustine over the past few months, have been living what I’ve been writing and feeling how our nation’s oldest town so clearly presents our clashing cultural energies and societal strife, I realized the first Reflections piece had to be from my home. If (when) I make this caravan across the US a reality, I foresee writing a Reflections piece as a way to tie a bow around each chapter. The culmination of this all I hope to one day put together in a multi-media piece titled “American Tapestry”.

  • Project : Footprints

This will be my daily strolls. I love walking around and sharing stimulus and letting the waterfall gush! Here will live the impromptu thoughts I have when I’m bathing in life and photo-journaling. This will be the raw human energies, the core components of the American story I want to tell. I have long shared these vibes in Twitter threads. I intend to bring these digital travels inside the project via Footprints, and then I can post some samples and seeds over there.
